This site is meant to connect fathers together so that we can speak in a real, unfiltered way about fatherhood and its importance. I’ve been on this journey of fatherhood for 15 plus years.  There have been plenty of ups and downs, joys and excitements, pains and sorrows, and many sleepless nights.  One of my most unforgettable sleepless nights happened at the start of becoming a father. I can remember holding my newborn baby girl and as she was crying, I was crying because I didn’t know how to console her. I didn’t know what to do or how to do it. So, I put her down and I ran away from fatherhood. Yes, at one point the person who created Dads Doing It ran away from fatherhood. At the time I had so many questions going through my mind that I didn’t have the answers to.  I’ve figured some things out along the way and still have moments of uncertainty but this journey of fatherhood has been rewarding.

Dads Doing It is a family effort. My wife and I are high school sweethearts and we have five children. As a family of 7, our days are organized chaos, but we would not have it any other way. Family is very important to us so we try to do as many things together as a family as we can. As kids neither my wife nor I had active fathers in our lives so it has been a very important mission for me to be present in our kids’ lives. Working in public service positions, both my wife and I often see the negative effects that absent fathers have on their children and how it effects the community as whole.  We feel it is important to encourage fathers to be active in their children’s lives and to connect and support fathers on this ever changing and challenging journey of parenthood.

I got the idea for Dads Doing It while out shopping with my wife. We were in the checkout line and I looked back and noticed the guy behind me had a cart full of diapers. After talking with the guy for some time, we both realized that we were more alike than different. Ultimately, it was diapers that brought us, two fathers, together but I thought to myself, “why couldn’t it be something else to bring fathers together, like a t-shirt?” And thus, Dads Doing It was created.
